Higgins Beach, located in Scarborough, Maine,
is a small seaside community of approximately 300 Beach Houses.
In addition, the community has two Inns (The Breakers and The Higgins
Beach Inn), which are open during the summer season. Also,
to the delight of locals and renters alike, Higgins Beach Market
is located at the entrance to the Beach. The "Market"
specializing in fresh produce from area farms, coffee, donuts, muffins,
and friendly chat!
Higgins Beach has a stretch of fine white sand, extending across
the beachfront and curling around "the spit" which borders
the Spurwink River.
At low tide, the beach becomes a playground for those who enjoy
collecting shells, playing volleyball or frisbee, making sandcastles,
and an endless variety of activities. Several "tidal
pools" are left behind from the previous high tide, and are
especially appealing to the little ones who spend countless hours
splashing around and discovering the many treasures Higgins Beach
has to offer.
DOGS ON THE BEACH
There are select times dog owners may walk their
dog on the Beach. From mid June through August, dogs are allowed
off leash from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. only.
No dogs are allowed on the Beach from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
After 5:00 p.m., dogs are allowed on the beach, on leash,
with their owner.
PARKING ON THE BEACH

All vehicles must be parked totally off the road and either in the
driveway or on the grass. There is a parking lot (currently $10.00 daily
rate - Jan. '05) with a capacity for approximately 100 vehicles.
